What is the AMICUS Program?
The AMICUS Program is a discount medical plan that provides discounted medical
services for its members at participating providers – it is not insurance. Discount
medical plans are licensed and registered with the Department of Insurance in
various states.
What is included in a Discount Medical Plan?
Services received from participating physicians, hospitals, dentists, chiropractors,
optometrists, and other health care professionals are included as services under
the program. Those members who participate in AMICUS Plus are also entitled to
hospital fee negotiation services. Hospital fee negotiations are not part of the
discount medical plan but are an added service that AMICUS Plus members may use
if they wish.
No. The AMICUS Program requires that all payments be made by the participant
to the provider; AMICUS can make no payment to the provider on behalf of the member.
Can I use this if I have insurance?
Yes. You may participate in the AMICUS Program but you will be required to make
a claim under your insurance for reimbursement of all or part of the bill from
the participating provider.
Are providers required to honor the AMICUS discount?
Providers may have limitations that we do not know about at the time service
is rendered. If your provider does not recognize your identification card, have
him or her call the appropriate number on the card or 800-896-1962 and we will
work with him.
Where is the Provider Listing?
Will AMICUS assist me in paying the bill?
No. Regulations specifically state that AMICUS cannot pay any part of the bill;
however, there are payment options available under the negotiation portion of
the AMICUS Plus program that are not provided by AMICUS.
